As a respected leader within the global financial community, the IMA influences the concepts and ethical practices in management accounting and financial management worldwide. Consequently, the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and the Certified in Financial Management (CFM) certification offered by the IMA are standards of quality and expertise. The CMA and the CFM Programs have been designed to recognize the unique qualifications and expertise of those professionals engaged in management accounting and financial management.
- The CMA designation provides corporate management and individual Members with an objective measure of knowledge and competence in the field of management accounting. The CMA is an invaluable credential for professional advancement and for broadening professional skills and perspective.
- The CFM certification provides Members who are involved with corporate cash management, financing and investment decisions, and risk management with a means for further demonstrating an expanded skill set. This exam provides an in-depth measure of competence in areas such as financial statement analysis, working capital policy, capital structure, valuation issues, and risk management.
Certification Programs have 4 objectives:
- To establish management accounting and financial management as recognized professions by identifying the role of the professional, the underlying body of knowledge, and a course of study by which such knowledge is acquired.
- To encourage higher educational standards in the management accounting and financial management fields.
- To establish an objective measure of an individual's knowledge and competence in the fields of management accounting and financial management.
- To encourage continued professional development

Admission Requirements
- Be a member of the Institute of Management Accountants. You can submit an application for IMA membership with your application for certification. Complete the certification information section on the IMA application and register for the CMA or CFM examination.
- Pass all four parts of the CMA or CFM examination.
- Fulfill or expect to fulfill the Educational Requirements.
- Be employed or expect to be employed in a position that meets the Experience requirement.
- Be of good moral character.
- Comply with the Standards of Ethical Conduct.

- Content Areas: Part 4 is the capstone of the CMA program, and can only be taken by people who have passed Parts 1, 2 and 3. Topics include Organizational Structures, Organizational Behavior, Economics, Budgeting, External Reporting, Corporate Finance, and Decision Analysis.
